What a pleasure it was for me to walk the course with one of our best golfers Lee Westward. I was there for the BMW PGA Championship Pro-Am, and it's fair to say he's a fantastic player and well matched by his kindness.
The four ball was our own Declan Donnelly, Alan Shearer, Pat Jennings and of course Mr Westward it took 5 hours to get round, that's because they must have signed over 50 autographs and about 100 selfies per hole! The last thing I would want to do is to upset the people of Wentworth, but I can say with all honesty Wimbledon Park Golf Course is in far far far better condition than Wentworth. No doubt Jay Tabb could confirm that as he was playing in the match ahead of us.
Your Pro Needs You!
Once again I need a team of fine men to take on the Ladies, last year it was too close for comfort, we won of course, but I would like to keep a hold of my winning run. It's the men against the ladies in a team challenge. Tom Kearns will be captaining the ladies.

First of all, it was an impressive sight to see the colourful Louis Laville, getting ready to start his defence of the Howett Scratch Cup as you can see!
Day One, Usher Memorial, 18 Holes
143 players gathered to play in this year's Spring Meeting day one (Usher Memorial). With swirling winds and green speeds of 11 and a half this was a true test. Only two players were to break par on day one. Fred Barrington & Graeme Miller both shot 65. The newbie Graeme Miller won on count back. Congratulations Graham, I know you had a lovely weekend with us.
Day Two, Coronation Cup, 18 Holes
Conditions were just as difficult on day two which made Lance Heatley's (16 handicap) score even more incredible. No one broke par on this day except Lance shooting 62 and he obliterated the rest of the field. Afterwards Lance was heard saying:
"Coming off a series of lessons with Dean [Wingrove], I knew it was only a matter of time before I would shoot a low number, he has given me so much confidence"
His long term friend and member Nigel Walder said:
"Lance has always shown a lot of promise, he is much better than me and probably always will be"
Day Two WPGC Cup, 36 Holes
With a wonderful follow up of 68 to go with his 65, a total of 133 was just about good enough for Miller to take the title just one ahead of Heatley & Barrington.
On a very personal note, I have worked up close and personal with David Langheim and his team and I know how much effort they put in for us. I also know how much they care. I have been here for over 30 years and I have never seen this golf course play any better, this is not just my own opinion, it is the opinion of many longstanding members. All I can say David is that you are very special and we are lucky to have you, well done and please thank your team.
Ladies Spring Meeting
64 ladies competed for this years Spring Meeting. Big congratulations goes to Sue Dawes for winning the scratch prize with a fine score of 79, and the winner of the Silver division went to Elise Gordon with a lovely 71 nett. Winner of the Bronze division was Carolyn Laville shooting a nett 72 .
Well done ladies, fantastic playing
