Competition news

A Great Result For Hyunji

10 years old Hyunji (pictured), checks her score card and yes 40 points to win and gets her handicap cut to 13.6.

Just as pleasing is that she played with Jan Sissons & Caroline Carton and afterwards they both said she was a pleasure to play with. The club along with the professional shop are helping her and I am so pleased that she is going in the right direction. I will keep you informed.

Congratulations to David Sumner on winning day 2 of the Stage with a Nett 63.

Two day overall winner was Greg Lambert with a combined nett 67 & 65 fantastic play Greg.

Scratch winner was Adam Menton with a total of 10 over par for the 36 hole event, well done Adam.

Thought of the week

Amateurs or pros?

Welcome to this week's newsletter. By the time you read this a few medals will have been handed out already in Rio - but who's going to take home Olympic gold in the golf?

The build-up to Rio - in terms of the golf - was dominated by many of the game's biggest stars dropping out, and these players have all received a lot of criticism for doing so.

Was the Zika virus a convenient excuse? Can today's elite stars be forgiven for skipping the Games because of their hectic schedules? Where does an Olympic gold medal stack up against a Green Jacket or Claret Jug?

Whatever your opinion, it has raised the question as to whether amateur golfers should have been targeted to represent the sport in Rio, rather than professionals.

We'd be interested to know your opinion, so pop to our homepage and register your vote.

It's a discussion that will rumble on. In the meantime, let's see how those who are playing get on. When the medal ceremony does take place, we wonder whether any of those who did decide to withdraw will regret their decision. Just a thought…

There's always going to be an element of luck with any hole-in-one, but this is something else! Sadly for Thomas Bjørn, it won't go down as a competitive ace.. Still… worth a watch.

Luckiest ever hole-in-one?

I hope you have enjoyed this weeks update.
